Glazing

In colored pencil, glazing uses light pressure to deposit a small amount of translucent or transparent color over the top of previous layers of coloring. The glaze layer subtly changes the appearance of the base color without hiding the original colors or details.

Think of the glaze layer like a pair of pink or blue sunglasses. We’re only changing the color “flavor”.

Glazing can adjust hue, temperature, value, or saturation. Unlike heavy layering or burnishing, glazing preserves the detail already established beneath it.
